Finally: Velas Resorts in Mexico has just implemented a new COVID-19 screening measure for guests & staff: the smell test.  The new protocol proceeds from the latest science coming out of King’s College London, which discovered that there are 6 distinct “types” of Covid-19, each of which causes its own particular set of symptoms. Although this cld potentially complicate tracing & testing efforts, there is 1 common denominator that’s consistent across all 6 types: loss of smell.  Velas Resorts w/ a simple-but-innovative new safety precaution that tgts this unifying symptom by testing travelers’ sense of smell. B/f they can enter the resort compound, guests & staff alike will be xpctd to participate in this test, in which they’re asked to smell a sachet (a small, scented pouch) & accurately identify its particular odor. The sachets are infused w/ 3 v distinct scents: citrus, coffee or garlic. Requiring this simple, non-invasive sniff test will reveal whether individuals exhibit any smell-sensory loss & may be infected w/ the virus. This practice is being implemented in addition to the frequent health & temperature screenings already in place for both guests & resort staff members. (MSN)
